What do you think of Canon EOS Rebel XSI digital SLR camera?

Do you recommend it? I am getting ready to step up to SLR camera so I can start taking professional quality shots..is it easy to use? I hate the regular digital camera with blurr picture of moving objects or slow lag time in between shots etc…

The XSi is a nice camera. However, unlike Sony and Pentax, it does not have Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. With Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras if you want IS you have to pay extra for it when you buy an IS lens.

The Sony A300 (10.2mp) and A350 (14.2mp) have Live View that actually works with the auto focus. In a situation where the only way to get the picture is to hold the camera over your head? Flip the screen down and you can compose, check focus and shoot. Using your camera at ground-level? Just flip the screen up.

Sony currently has 26 branded lenses, has released a Carl Zeiss T* line of lenses and every legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 will mount to any Sony DSLR. Of course, with the in-camera IS every lens you use will have that benefit.

Most accessories from the Konica-Minolta D5 & D7 DSLR cameras are compatible with the Sony DSLRs since Sony bought the technology from K-M in 2006.

The Pentax K200D and K20D can use every Pentax K-mount lens made since 1975, whether manual focus or auto focus. Again, with in-camera IS every lens used will have that benefit.

Regardless of which camera you buy, plan on taking some photography classes. Until you learn about composition, light, shutter speeds, f-stops and ISO your pictures will not turn out the way you want. The most expensive, sophisticated camera in the hands of an unskilled person will take lousy pictures. Its not the camera, its the photographer.

Can i get some oppinions/suggestions about purchasing zoom lens and a flash for my Canon Rebel XT?

I’m planning to buy a decent zoom lens and flash for my Canon Rebel XT soon but i don’t know where to start and what to look for. Obviously I’m still an amateur, so help would be appreciated. I’m looking for lenses probably not over 500$ as well. Thank you.
I currently have the kit lens, EFS 18-55mm.
I was thinking i could use a better flash since at night, it can never focus and it does that thing where it flashes repeatedly.

What lens do you have now?

What kinds of things do like to shoot?

Stick with a Canon dedicated flash unit.

What is the strip above the LCD screen on the Canon Rebel XT?

I have seen some pictures of the Canon Rebel XT (digital) and am going to be borrowing one to use in about a week, and in the pictures, it shows a strip of something about a centimeter above the LCD screen… What is this for/what is it’s purpose?

It is the status display that shows general information about settings.

12.2 Megapixel, 3.0" LCD, Silver. I’m thinking about getting one. will I be able to adjust the settings to blur backgrounds or will I need a different lens to do it? any info is great.

The 18-55 lens will do for background blurring. If you are getting silver, I might want to advise you on getting a black one, it looks better with lenses and I found it easier to sell a black SLR then to sell a silver one. The best lens for background blur is the 50mm f/1.2L. Good focal length, and also good aperture. The f/1.4 and f/1.8 will do too.

Will a Canon Rebel XT work without a battery door?

I bought a Canon Rebel XT off Craigslist and it came without a battery door (to my prior knowledge). When I charged the camera batteries and put them in the camera the next day, it wouldn’t turn on. Does the lack of a battery door affect the ability of the camera to turn on and off?

The door comes off actually when you connect the camera to the hand grip. So the seller misplaced the door (there is a place for it in the handgrip to "hide it") when you were sold the camera.

Canon can get you a few one for a few dollars. My niece went through the same thing and she was able to get it in about a week. Go to a local camera store that sells Canon cameras (a real camera store, not an electronic store) and they can order it for you.

It is spring loaded–you’d squeeze the little thingie and it pops back in place.

How to adjust shutter speed on Canon rebel XT?

I want to know how to adjust my (dad’s) Canon Digital Rebel XT to a slower shutter speed.

I misplaced the manual and even if I had the manual, I would be to lazy to read it.

I appreciate your help!

In Tv (Shutter Priority) the main dial behind the shutter controls your shutter speed.

In Av (Aperture Priority) the camera calculates the shutter speed based on the user designated aperture. You have no control of the shutter speed while in Av.

In M (Manual) the main dial controls the shutter speed. Pressing and holding the Av button on the back of the camera in conjunction with turning the main dial controls the aperture.

In P (Program) and A-DEP (Auto Depth) the camera controls both shutter speed and aperture. Only the ISO can be set by the user.

All the other modes are "dumb" modes in that the camera controls all functions of the camera, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

And if you had the manual, you should read it.

How do I get Vista to allow me to view Canon Rebel XT pics?

I just purchased an older Rebel XT and cannot upload the pictures using Vista. I have tried downloading the driver upgrade from the Canon website, but it still comes up with an error? Any ideas?

Sure you can … just open "My Computer" and look at the removable drive (which will be your camera) and then just copy the image files over to your computer.

EDIT … my Canon using friends tell me that you may have to buy a $10 card reader and just use it and keep your XT out of the loop.
